Overview
The Polar Dome Ice Rink project began with a blank slate and the goal of crafting a full-scale brand identity for a new community-centric ice rink experience. From naming and logo development to marketing strategy and in-rink engagement concepts, this project required a clear, memorable identity that could appeal to families, athletes, and local skaters alike. The mission was to build a fun and friendly destination that would energize the community and establish the rink as a year-round local staple.
Creative Approach
To bring the brand to life, I developed a bold and playful visual identity centered around a custom mascot: an energetic, approachable yeti with personality and charm. The logo and supporting graphics were designed to be dynamic and versatile, with an emphasis on seasonal adaptability and march-ready appeal. I directed the creation of all brand materials including signage, apparel, promotional flyers, digital content, and on-site visuals. Special attention was paid to the tone of the messaging, which was crafted to be engaging and welcoming while still highlighting technical programs like hockey clinics and instructional sessions.
Deliverables
Deliverables for the project included the Polar Dome name, logo, mascot character, full brand system, and creative direction across all applications. I designed and produced marketing flyers for hockey clinics, skill sessions, and special events. I also led concept development for in-rink experiences, such as the custom-designed Score-O goal tarp featuring the yeti face, created to encourage interaction and enhance player development. All visuals were aligned under one cohesive voice and aesthetic.
Results
The Polar Dome launched with strong community reception, quickly gaining visibility through its memorable branding and consistent outreach. The mascot-driven identity proved effective across print, digital, and environmental applications. Flyers helped drive program participation, and the Score-O target became a standout rink feature, boosting player engagement and providing a visual anchor for photo ops and social media. The brand set a tone for long-term growth, successfully establishing the Polar Dome as a beloved recreational hub.
